Interested in Wen Ning's canon? The character is taken from the series The Untamed, which is a live action adaptation of the BL novel Mo Dao Zu Shi. It also has anime/donghua and manhua adaptations. All of these adaptations can be found online, and I've compiled a list here.

Novel

Mo Dao Zu Shi (Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation)
This is a fan translation by the group Exiled Rebels Scanlations. There are sure to be other versions out there, but so far this is the only complete one. This is the original canon, and while not everyone starts here it's a good read if you have any interest in the series at all. Note, of course, that it is a boy love novel and contains some sexual content later on.

Live Action Series

Chen Qing Ling (The Untamed)
youtube | viki | wetv | also available on netflix
Aside from the novel, this is the most common version you'll see people play from. There are enough changes from the original to make both worth your time. As this was produced in mainland China while the book's author is from Taiwan, some of these changes were made as a result of censorship. There are no real physical shows of affection between the two main leads, and anything involving raising the dead was altered. This is why in this version Wen Ning is a "puppet" rather than a "fierce corpse" (or a zombie with a conscience). Despite all this, it is still an excellent adaptation, well acted, with additional scenes that really help to build up the characters. The series is 50 episodes and is complete. The subtitles for Viki include a few extra details that the Netflix ones don't, but the Netflix ones use a better choice of words in many situations, so it's all personal preference. The ones on YouTube convey everything you need but the grammar is often subpar.

Donghua

Or the "anime" version of the series. This is currently incomplete with (I believe) a third season on the way. It's very much the book in flashy anime format with a few deviations. If you enjoy it, it also has an accompanying chibi series.

Manhua

The story in comic form. Out of all of them it's the furthest behind, but it's updated weekly on mangadex. This adaptation is very close to the book though somewhat summarized. Though be advised - while the manhua itself currently doesn't have any NSFW content, some of the credit/title cards from one of the scanlation groups do, so open at your own risk. (The official translation is here, but it isn't recommended.)

There is also an audio drama, but you'll have to join a Discord server to access the episodes. They're done by Suibian Subs and the Discord invite is at this link. Please follow the rules listed there if you plan on downloading anything.
